This fresh homemade guac is tangy, flavorful, and beyond addicting. There is something about making fresh guac that levels up any taco night. I can guarantee that this will be a crowd-pleaser.

In my opinion, fresh homemade guac is the only way to go. I will purchase extra avocados at the grocery store just to have enough to have an excuse to make some guac.

Freshly made guac and chips

This recipe couldn’t be any easier to make, and I will always take the extra minute to make some fresh guac to level up our taco nights. I can almost guarantee you will ask yourself, “Why haven’t I done this sooner?”

Tips For Making Fresh Homemade Guac -

  • Be sure to save your avocado pits till the end. This will help keep your guac fresh!

  • The recipe is more of a “range” of ingredients. It’s all based on flavor preference and overall goal for the taste. I like that when making guac you can taste test as you go!

How To Store Fresh Homemade Guac -

The best way to store guac is with as little air exposure as possible. If you are making this ahead of time to take somewhere, I always recommend placing it in a glass container and covering the top tightly with plastic wrap. Be sure to push the plastic wrap into the top of the guac to eliminate any air bubbles that might get trapped there. Then, place your lid on top!

I recommend enjoying your fresh homemade guac immediately with some delicious chips. If you have some leftovers, store them in the fridge for 1-2 days.

Tools You Might Need

  • Molcajete or medium-sized bowlIf you want a fun serving bowl, I recommend getting a cute molcajete like this one.
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Citrus Juicer
  • Garlic Press (optional)
Guac ingredients

Ingredients

  • Avocados
  • Roma Tomato
  • Red Onion
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Lime Juice

How To Make Fresh Homemade Guac -

Avocado cut in half

Take a medium size bowl, or if you have it, get out your molcajete and begin to prepare your avocados.

Cut each avocado in half and remove the pit. The best way to get a stuck avocado pit out is to tap your knife into it and slowly twist it until the pit comes out. (See picture) Carefully pull the avocado pit off the knife and set aside for later! Seriously, don’t throw it away, it’s important to keep your guac fresh.

Mashed avocado in a Molcajete

Once pitted, take a spoon to scoop out the fresh green avocado fruit and add it to your bowl.

Next, mash up the avocado with a fork to create a nice soft texture. From here we are slowly going to add in all our additional ingredients to make the fresh homemade guac something to remember!

Add diced tomatoes, onion, chopped cilantro, minced garlic, salt, and lime juice. Give your guac a good stir to distribute the additional ingredients evenly. Next, taste test it. Make sure the overall flavor is right where you want it. If it’s not, tweak it! That’s the beauty of playing around with a recipe. Maybe you want it to be saltier, or there are not enough tomatoes! The choice is yours.

Avocado pits in fresh made guac to preserve freshness

Lastly, remember those avocado pits? Place a couple of them in your bowl to help keep your guac fresh longer. It’s a little-known hack to help preserve the shelf life of your guac!

Serve your guac with some delicious tortilla chips & enjoy!
