This quick homemade coleslaw is a simple side dish with a zesty flavor. It’s refreshing and has the perfect amount of crunch. It’s also the perfect dish to prep ahead of time. You can guarantee I will always have a bowl of this in the fridge throughout the summer.

The summer heat brings quick and easy meals for us on the homestead. After long days at the beach or playing in the sun, I like to have fast, no-fuss meals in my back pocket. Especially when it gets so hot you don’t dare turn on the oven or stove. My quick homemade coleslaw is a staple and something that my kids thoroughly enjoy.

My homemade coleslaw has a slight sweet tang, making it very refreshing on hot summer nights. We love to grill chicken or burgers and enjoy my homemade coleslaw as we unwind from our day.

One of my favorite parts about this recipe is that it is refined sugar-free. Most coleslaws I’ve tried in the past always have a bit of granulated sugar to give them that sweetness. However, I’m always finding ways to eliminate the unnecessary processed sugar and swap for more natural sugar options. A little teaspoon of maple syrup does just the trick, giving your coleslaw that sweet flavor your taste buds are looking for.

Tips For Making Quick Homemade Coleslaw -

  • You can make this coleslaw in 5-10 minutes, but it tastes better when you let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  • I recommend using a hint of maple syrup to give your coleslaw a sweet flavor. But be warned, a little syrup goes a long way!

From here, I take a 2-cup liquid measuring cup and prepare my dressing. I will add mayonnaise, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, maple syrup, pepper, and salt together. I will use a small whisk to blend the dressing well.

Once the dressing is smooth, you can pour it over the top of your coleslaw and begin to toss the salad until the dressing is evenly coated throughout the cabbage slaw.

From there, cover with plastic wrap and let it set up in the fridge for a 20-30 minutes while the rest of your dinner cooks. Once it’s set up a bit in the fridge, take it out and bon appétit! This pairs perfectly with some grilled chicken or burgers!
