Sourdough Health Benefits -

What’s all the rage with sourdough? Maybe you’ve seen people get increasingly interested in baking sourdough bread and other baked goods. Is this legit or just a trend that will fade over the next few months? There are quite a few health benefits to sourdough, and in my opinion, this is one of those timeless traditions that have been around for centuries.

First, the grain is fermented, an extra step you won’t find in your store-bought bread. The fermentation process breaks down the gluten and phytic acid found in flour. Phytic Acid is an antinutrient that blocks our bodies from absorbing the other nutrients found in wheat. When phytic acid is broken down, it is easier for our bodies to digest the grain and get more nutrients out of it. Those with a slight gluten intolerance (not celiac) can even enjoy baked goods with sourdough because of the fermented grain.
Second, fermentation also helps produce beneficial probiotics from the yeast in sourdough, which will continue to make a healthy gut microbiome.

Lastly, one of my favorite fun facts about sourdough is that it surprisingly helps manage blood sugar. It seems like an oxymoron, right? Especially since we’ve been told our whole lives that bread is an empty carb and our bodies just turn it into sugar. In comparison, it might be true for most “commercialized” bread. When naturally fermented, sourdough has a lower glycemic index than white bread. This means it is slower to spike your blood sugar levels!

How To Make Sourdough Turkey Sliders -
This is the simplest recipe you will ever make! First, preheat your oven to 375. Then, take your homemade sourdough dinner rolls, leave them together, and cut them in half.

Carefully remove the top buns of the bread without breaking them apart and set aside.
Next, start layering the meat on the bottom buns. I used about a pound of meat for the entire recipe. After this, top your meat with cheese and place your top buns back on to complete the sandwich.

You will then want to melt butter on the stove or in a microwave. I prefer to do this on the stove and mix fresh garlic into the butter as it heats up. This helps infuse that perfect garlic taste into the butter. Let everything come together for 2-3 minutes before pulling it off the heat. Lastly, add dried parsley to the butter to give it a nice color!

Top your cute little buns with melted butter and cover with aluminum foil. Put them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. After the first 10 minutes are done, you should start to notice that your cheese is melting on the sides. Take the aluminum foil off and place back in the oven for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted!
After this, pull the sliders out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Remove them from the baking dish and place them on the cutting board. Slice and serve it warm! These sliders pair well with coleslaw and fresh fruit salad!
